I have a 40hp Yamaha midrange (year 2000) that will not stay trimmed...basically, it gradually drops (seems to drop under the motor's own weight) and I constantly must trim up to maintain speed/rpm efficiency. Is this a low fluid level problem? What type of fluid and where should I top off (from this message board i've gleened motor up, tilt lock engaged, and up-down-up-down several cycles then re-top off again, but which screw is the filler plug?)

Re: greenhorn's yamaha tilt/trim question

Hello spaceman,
I've got a 1998 7ohp Yamaha with the identical problem. What helps is to tilt the motor fully up and then let it drop back down by manually turning the release screw on the right hand side of the bracket. then tighten up the screw and electrically raise the motor again and repeat the procedeure again. This should release any air in the system.
To add fluid, the nylon screw just to the right of centre and below the metal fluid line.
One question, is your motor still under warranty, if so i would use the warrany as this problem might persist.
good luck, terry
