greasing gimble

I have a 2000 stingray deck boat with a volvo penta outdrive the manuel says take the outdrive off to grease the gimble and ujoints every year,i have a grease fitting on the outdrive,almost where the outdrive touches the transom ,my question is what is the grease fitting for.well its not really a manuel it is just something i printed off the stingray website for my boat.Thanks

The gimbal is behind the outdrive unit. These other zerks are for other grease areas...Keep them filled too.
I pull my outdrive off every other yr in the fall to check the gimbal. I had to replace it this Spring 2011.

Ayuh,... That feeds the gimbel bearing,...
But, ya still gotta pull the drive to grease, 'n check the u-joints...

If you look you can see the tube that supplies grease to the gimple bearing. I have my drive off to replace the clucth cone (sliding sleeve) and to grease the spline shafts and reseal the lower and upper cases. In doing this maintenance I found several issues that could have lead to more serious repairs.
