i was floating in the water, and noticed that there was an oil slick floating behind my boat. also, some brown blobs floated up around the outdrive up close to the boat. back at the dock, i backed the boat in the water, and the oil/grease seems to be coming from the lower steering pivot point. i use Pennzoil marine grease. anyone had this happen? this was not a small amount of oil/grease. there are small blobs of grease on the outdrive that look like the Pennzoil. have i busted a seal? i normally lybe these pivots until i see some oozing of the grease.

don't know what you may have going on, but I do know that a little oil goes a long way on water..just a few drops can look like a lot more than it really is.............

Generally grease does not spread at the surface like oil. Perhaps one of your hydrolic trim lines is leaking? Do you notice more sitting at idle moving the trim up and down. Definately check the oil in the outdrive for any water contamination.

found the problem. the oil was running down from the u joint bellows onto the pivot. now i am reading and posting about bellows replacement.
