Is this a tell tale sign that I need to repack bearing and replace the inner seal?

I have bearing buddies on the trailer now and have no clue when they were installed or repacked etc.

Is is safe to operate as it, or should I fix the inner seal and repack/replace etc right away before taking the trailer on the highway etc?

I have read so many conflicting thought on this and just want to cover my a** and eliminate problems before they happen

Since it is simple and can be done quite quickly, I would take the tires off and pull the hubs and remove the grease seals. Then you can inspect the bearings and cups and replace them if needed and install new seals. That way you are sure not to have any problems on the road. Good luck.

I agree with Al Kungel, you`re noty ready to go until verify your bearings and seals.

Definitely get those serviced. Sounds like you have a blown seal, which will allow the grease out - as evidenced by your grease covered rim. If enough grease comes out, your bearings can fail.

Didn't look at the site, but most of the time when I have seen greese coming out of the inside of the wheel on a trailer, I also note that the trailer has bearing buddies on it. Bearing buddies are great, but if you pump too much grease in them you will blow the seal in short order. They just need to have enough grease so that the piston just comes off the inner seat.

Bearing Buddies often leak grease themselves. One of mine got sand in the piston/spring and grease would get slung out all over the wheel. If you take them off, they disassemble really easy if you have circle clip pliers. Clean and reassemble before installing the grease.
