yamaha has a grease fitting for the starter bendex so grease can get in there if it is overdone

Re: grease in stator/flywheel?

a grease fitting for the bendix? where? I've never seen one and I have 5 2cyl yamaha motors in my garage right now. The only grease fitting (zerk) I've seen on a superjet is for the midshaft assembly - might be different for waverunners, though.

I think the OP is asking if there is supposed to be grease in there - no, there is not. But - if someone gets overzealous with the grease lubing up the crank seal, it will leak out and pool at the bottom of the case under the flywheel. I think I've seen that on almost every engine I've taken apart.

your flywheel and stator should be clean, dry and grease free upon assembly. The bendix should be lubed, but not dripping with grease either.

Odd, but those are jetboats. I would have assumed Yamaha made no modifications to the engines in comparison to the pwc. The boat they're talking about (the XR) uses a pair of the 1200cc PV engines. I owned a GPR with that engine and it definitely did not have a zerk fitting for the starter. I've never seen any PWC with one.

I owned many skis over the years, did all the maintenance/ work on them myself, and owned all the maintenance manuals for every ski I owned. I've never had any pwc that had a zerk fitting for the starter.

If uniiiiit's "90 model waverunner" is an early 90s model, then it probably has a 650 or 701 engine. Neither have zerks for the bendix.
