Thinking about doing some testing for a new prop. I live literally less than 1 mile from the boat launch at Johnson Park (right there at wilson and i-196, by the grand lady). How is the water depths there and heading west (downstream)? I was wondering if its safe for me to do some speed runs or if i should just head up to riverside park in grand haven. The convience and lack of ramp fee is good for me since i will be doing just short runs and possibly pulling in and out to fine tune the motor. I see trailers there regularly, but rarely see boats so never see anyone to ask. Thanks in advance.

Re: Grand River in Michigan boaters!

I grew up on the river. It's been a long time, but I don't remember the depth or space up there for what you want to do.
I don't think you need to go as far as Grand Haven, though.

We launched out of Riverside Park just past Allendale. Deep enough water for some good skiing and some 60mph+ runs.
My best skiing and barefooting was in the gravel pit just upriver.
I seemed to remember a bridge in Ada(?) that was as far as we would go upriver.

Hope that helps. Stay safe!
