Grady White 227 Seafarer

I am looking at a 1987 22' seafarer with 470, 180 HP engine anyone out there had experience with this combination? The boat hull is very clean for her age. is it worth my time?----Waytogo---

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... The 470 motor is reason enough not to buy it,...

It's no longer supported by Merc,...

Do a search of the forums for the 470 and you will see why you are getting this advice. They can be a major, expensive headache.

On a 470 there should be no reason for a compression check. The time should be spent pricing new power.

And as far as the boat goes, these were not very good boats as far as trim and fasteners went. I would also look for any signs of cracking in the decks etc. May have some rott in here. We owned an 86 model 22 seafarer bought brand new. Can say for her size, she was a dry boat and worked well on long island sound.

Run, the boat is a dog. Under powered, too much weight aft with the I/O

Thanks Guys, I have taken your advice and ran away from this one. local merc dealer said this is to heavy a boat for that engine plus a couple other issues. So I will go back to scouring the boats for sale adds again,---waytogo---
