Hi, new to the forum site. I am hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I boat on the Mississippi River near Davenport IA. I have Corp charts but would like to have a GPS to show me the information of the river (markers, channel, wingdams, depths) depths I could live without. I own a Garmin handheld 76csx, but am willing to purchase a different unit (within cost). I see that Garmin has a couple (inland rivers and upper fishing) that show location but not wingdams and depths. Does anyone have/know of a product that works in this area?
Mild winter/early warm weather, we can't wait to get boating.
Thanx

What you are looking for is a Chartplotter. These are GPS, with charting functions to give you depth, hazards, etc. If you have a smart phone, you may be able to download an app (Navionics is one), but a dedicated chartplotter will have better features.

garmin has Upper Midwest Fishing Guide lake and river maps that should cover your area on micro sd that should work for your unit. Look up on the water maps on garmins website. O their website they have an interactive version that you can check out and see what info is provided.

Here is a quick copy and paste:

Get detailed coverage for more than 9,500 of the most popular lakes, rivers, inlets, channels and hazards in the Upper Midwest. This guide also includes detailed shoreline and bottom information as well as highly defined depth contours on select lakes so you can find fish quickly.

Re: GPS mapping upper Mississippi River

Thank you for the response and I have looked at the upper Midwest Fishing Guide. The problem with that one that I see unless I am missing something (I hope) is that being on the Mississippi River the last thing I want to do as others have is to hit a wing dam. I do not see that this Guide Map has them on it? I seemed to have ALL the other information but not that.
