I just got a 2000 gp 800y who has been sitting for two years. I drained all the old gas out and filled up with fresh gas 93 octane.Replace the fuel filter, put new spark plugs, new Yuasa battery. So I did a tune up and got it running great, idle good, rpms revup nice in the driveway, connected to a hose, but once it gets in the water, it refuses to open up . It gets up to 4000 rpm and falls flat on its face. When I take it out of water ski comes up in rpm and idles like a champ.
I checked the compression: 130 on both cylinders on full open throttle.

Any suggestions? Carbs, reeds, power valves?
Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

remove spark plug boots and make sure you have good contact between the plug boot and wire.

trim wire if needed (1/4" at a time) until you have good electrode to make contact.

I haven't had the time to try that yet. I really hope that is the problem, being such an easy fix.I'll get on it on Monday.
Thank you very much for your suggestion Penguin!
