I was trying to get the darn thing off the trailer yesterday and a big wake came in and almost sunk the little boat I have. Its an 11ft dory and I have no doubt that it would be at the bottom of the lake right now if it was an alumnium boat or regular fiberglass. The dory is foam filled like a whaler. My fuel tank was almost completely submerged. I tried to run it and it would keep cutting out so I dumped the fuel out got some fresh gas and new plugs and it ran ok for about 30 seconds and started cutting out again. I talked with a guy at the store where I bought my plugs and he said it sounded like I needed to clean my carb out. Just trying to figure out the cheapest easiest way to solve my problem. Before this happened this motor was running perfect. Very frusterated

It would help if we had a clue as to what motor this is.

Drain the carb bowl and start with fresh fuel and go from there!

And remember, you will still have some bad gas in the fuel line from the tank, so with the carb drain open, pump the primer bulb to remove all the bad fuel from the line.

The motor is an 81 30hp tohatsu. I drained the fuel, carb bowl and added fresh gas. I was still having problems until I went back into the the carb and found a small piece of plastic blocking the needle valve hole where the float sits. It will run now but is down on power. Its a challenge to get it to plane out now and before it would plane in about 5 seconds. When I got it back home tonight I went back into the carb for a 3rd time and cleaned the jets on the carb. My fuel pump is also bad. I guess the ordeal with the water was the last straw for it. Does anyone know if you can get replacement parts for the fuel pump or do you have to just replace the entire thing? One of the round brass diaphragms had a crack in the outer edge. thanks for the replies. Its nice to have a place to go when your not certain about something, thanks.
