Ayuh,.... I had a '74 Islander for years,.....
I took the cabin door off, 'n built a cabin curtain instead of that damn door which was always in the way,....

I bought a half sunk in a marina, '65 18' Holiday with a 110 Mercruiser; my first restoration and quite a story in getting it done but I did and the family enjoyed outings in it.

Looking at the companion way I can understand the comment @Bondo made. A curtain sounds great...or maybe a sliding door.

a sliding door is out, a curtain is also out, hoping i can find something that i can lock. as my fishing gear and my safety kit along with other things will be in there. may end up fabricating something up that my sign guy has for making signs. (not coroplast either) is aluminum sandwiching a solid core of resin id say its at least 1/2 inch thick maybe less .....

well i have done a inspection of this boat. guy said it all worked, come to realize, the guy said that he redone the floor and stringers, well low and behold, all he did was put another floor ontop of the old floor and covered with leno. now im more worried , he did redo the transom. i checked on that fresh wood. i have also noticed that no lights work, wiring is a mess, 3 plugs going nowhere. no trim/tilt. wires and control are on helm for it. but nothing hooked up, controller has a plug not hooked up. , gas tank is now plastic under passenger seat. so the gas fill is now redundent. no windshield wiper, . i think i may have got ripped on this deal . however i am going to redo all the wiring. properly. lol. i wont redo the floor as of yet as i know its gonna cost. however the floor ontop is about a 1/2 inch off the bottom orignal floor. and very sturdy. boat is sound otherwise.

well, i have just started my boat since i got it. engine runs awesome. trim/tilt works, found it on throttle control, next im going to figure out the lights. and the mess of wires. i will be buying some gauges in the future. along with led nav lights, new vhf , fishfinder, ect. i also need to do some cosmetic work . i would like to find original tank for this as right now im not liking where the new plastic tank sits. wich is under the passenger seat. and i also want to use the fuel fill in the back. hard to get a jerry can where it sits now. will post pics in a bit

Good luck. I hope when you are finished refurbishing this boat you have a lot of great and fun times aboard.

My 1983 had a steel tank...you don't want one of those for rusting reasons !! Mine has a 24 gallon aluminum tank under the passenger seat with no issues. Added a deck fill on the gunnel. Plastic is better than a steel tank if that is what yours came with!!
