Ayuh,.... I had a '74 Islander for years,.....well new to me anyways, lol traded my 85 sunray omc 400 stringer for a 1976 starcraft chieftain. ( powered by1991 mercury 115hp) i need to get a door for the cabin, and clean it. but all else has be redone. transom floor and stringers, carpet, ect.
thank you, i did want a full cabin cruiser, but this is just as good. and i can modify it if need be. the plus on this is that we get our garage back and its an outboard. plus all the work has been done for me lol.....great trade.
Think I'd go with the zipper, I'm familiar with zippers..snap on or zippered canvas door
lol, i would have walked away had i known all this before i done the trade. however i am now out a full working boat and doing a wiring restore on this one to at least get out on the water.... then i will work on the floor and stringers ..... for now the floor is solid .I would walk away.
Good luck. I hope when you are finished refurbishing this boat you have a lot of great and fun times aboard.lol, i would have walked away had i known all this before i done the trade. however i am now out a full working boat and doing a wiring restore on this one to at least get out on the water.... then i will work on the floor and stringers ..... for now the floor is solid .
My 1983 had a steel tank...you don't want one of those for rusting reasons !! Mine has a 24 gallon aluminum tank under the passenger seat with no issues. Added a deck fill on the gunnel. Plastic is better than a steel tank if that is what yours came with!!well, i have just started my boat since i got it. engine runs awesome. trim/tilt works, found it on throttle control, next im going to figure out the lights. and the mess of wires. i will be buying some gauges in the future. along with led nav lights, new vhf , fishfinder, ect. i also need to do some cosmetic work . i would like to find original tank for this as right now im not liking where the new plastic tank sits. wich is under the passenger seat. and i also want to use the fuel fill in the back. hard to get a jerry can where it sits now. will post pics in a bit
