well we just lost a 2nd class machinist mate from the USCG with 9 years of training, he was discharged honorably for the good of the service, the reason for discharge you may ask? cause he would not remove the eagle and USCG shield tattoed on his arms.
the USCG ie the US taxpayer had spent a lot of money on training this technician and the tattoes were on long before any regulations yet the US taxpayer just LOST all their invested money over a tatto.
makes sense to me.

Yep, fully agree rodbolt. They needed to change the rules and quickly. The story mentions the deficit in recruitment last year.
Like you said that situation with the USCG was just plain crazy. Plain admin crazy. My attitude? If someone can do the job and is prepared to do it then I don't give two hoots what they look like, within reason: I wouldn't employ Ms Deezy's sister :D

yep
the USN spent roughtly 350,000 tax dollars training me for almost 6 years, they could not find what was wrong with me and now its suspected something in my immune system did not like one of the vaccines, however from 1991-2006 no one in the VA nor the navy medical could pinpoint it.
took a doki tari in venezuela to nail it and he did it on the second vist, first time I saw him. funny thing he was trained in the states.
fact is he hit it first crack and the follow up blood tests nailed it. but the USN does mail me a check once a month.
I was placed on the permanant disabled retired list in 95.
I wonder how many taxdollars that 2nd class coastie with 9 years had under his belt?
all because some rule that visible tatto's dont look professional.
while I agree they dont I disagree on a discharge based on something that was tattoed before any tatto regulations.
