Re: Google Maps

http://maps.google.com/

Personally I tend to like terraserver better. Maybe its just that they seem to have more current aerial photos on my area.

Neither has "underwater" maps that I am aware of.

Re: Google Maps

The lake I live on in Ontario is called Lake Simcoe and it is VERY big and has numerous ministry offices surrounding it and they have public meetings all the time...they are trying to raise money by distributing a map of the bottom of the lake...it's supposed be very good I can't wait till they start selling them.

Do you guys have something like this?

Skipper

I would if I could. There are some lakes that were surveyed prior to filling. Some of these have the old topographical contour lines overlayed on the new lake map. I believe that most of the big canyon lakes on the Colorado River like Powell have maps available like this.

Your looking for a topographical map of the lake. They show botom contours.

Well, not technically an underwater photo but here is a link to a terraserver sat photo of Sardis lake in MS taken on two different dates. One shows the lake at max pool the other at full drawdown. I love this site. I't detailed enough that in one image of Flower lake I can see a single tupelo tree in the middle of a borrow pit from space!

http://terraserver.microsoft.com/image.aspx?T=1&S=12&Z=16&X=323&Y=4773&W=3&qs=|sardis+lake|MS

spots

Re: Google Maps

There is a company that makes Hydro Maps of lakes. I have them for all the lakes here in the Phx area. They show botom contours with depths, atrificial structure, ramps and campgrounds restrooms, place names. All kind of things. I'll get you the company name when I get home. Don't know if they would have anything for Canada or not.

Yeah, I think Az is talking about these guys:

http://www.fishnmap.com/

I have them for Mead, Mohave and Havasu and they are very good. Problem is that with the lakes going up and down there are silt deposits that change the topography dramatically right at the point where the river current enters the lake. There are some new 3D ChartPlotters that interface with depth sounders and I believe continually update the "picture" of the bottom. I am sure they cost a fortune.

My avatar is full pool at Mead in 2000. I have the one at 1140'ish in 2003 as well. Available here:

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Study/LakeMead/lake_mead.html VERY hi-res
