Hi I have a 1957 35hp and not long ago I took it apart to start restoring it and what I found was a ton of rot inside. I personally decied to call it day on that one as I would have had way to much money into it. I would say if you have the time and money go for it. If not do your self a favor and sell it off as a parts motor.

Good luck

yes yes more info. "can't get it running right"......what's it doing wrong?? Is it doggy?? does it backfire and/or sneeze?? This is a twin, so does it only run on one cylinder??

Please tell us more about what it is or is not doing.

It is a little hard to crank and once cranked it runs preety up to half throttle but once you open it up its sort of jumps and cutts out and no matter how much you ajust the carb it still does the same thing. I mean you can tell it is changing but never really leans out good! The motor sat for about 5 years due to the fact that the guy who owned it let the foot freeze and crack, i replaced all that. He said it ran like a top until the foot cracked after that he took it off and never messed with again. I changed the plugs also but i am going to go ahead and change points and coil i'm sure it won't hurt anything. It has good compression.

if its anything like about 5 or 10 of the older engines ive tuned up when you pull the flywheel you will spot your problem right away, you will see 2 coils totally pooched if their originals.you might even be able to crush them with your hands.i really wish i had of took pictures of the 2 i took out of a 56 30hp ,before i crushed them with my hand they were totally blown apart basically.the amazing thing is the motor ran,not well, but it really had no right to run atall!
