Re: Good or Bad fishing trip??
Ill tell ya what ... not that its happened too many times, but there have been rare few times on one of my infamous Nite Blues Trips that I have been skunked - usually when the whole boat gets skunked, Ill get one, I have no qualms about cheating, light up lures, with a nice shiny castmaster near by, go light and catch some sea robbins or fluke and whack em up for blue bait

but ... it happens

my old method was to have a few pulls of cutty sark and a bud, (bear in mind I was and am a big man, what gets me sh!tfaced would put the average joe in the hospital with alcoholic poisoning - NOT COOL if you consider that to get a decent buzz, I have to down a LOT Of booze, and I like expensive scotches!
but a six pack just keeps me from being thirsty

you shell out 40 bucks and board the party boat

I enjoy myself the moment I hear those turbocharged diesels spool up, hear the wash of the wake, I love it, I just love it, the sun going down and blackness enveloping the boat, and cape may lighthouse sinking below the horizon

Granted, the SeaCraft could travel the 20 odd miles out to the far grounds in way less time than the party boat takes, but there is a feeling of absolute reliability, and peace - the captain has every nav aid known to man on the bridge, and twin 12-92's under the deck

while fishing, something always happens, schools of squid rush the chum (watch a squid hit a bait tentacles first, suddenly the idea of a giant squid attacking a whale doesnt seem so farfetched!)

or snapper blues, or a few big sharks, but again, even nothing at all, there is the slap of water on the hull, the sounds of reels cranking, the creak of the anchor line, lovely stuff

the last call comes and its time to wind em up, crack a few buds and maybe a doobie on the way back in, lol, well, always a doobie on the way back in, but I love the sound of those diesels droning away for a few hours, one time I was pretty out of it (thai wonder why ....
) and I heard one of the diesels go out of phase, then slow, then stop. and the other one get a hardened edge to it

mate came by, yo, did the starboard engine go out?

ummmm, damm, you heard that? yeah, got a little hot, shut it down

but eventually you see the jetty lights, and the run thru the predawn stillness of the harbor at Cape May, water dead flat, nothing moving, ten billion stars above

beauty, glorious beauty

no fish needed

bad trip?

never!!!
