The 17 yr old down the street has a pickup with really loud exhaust. He also has 3 or 4 friends who also have loud pickups. For the last month or so they like speed down the street, and "peel out" at the corner. It was starting to get annoying listening to these lead foots at 12:30AM on Friday night and daily right after high school got out. So I decided to stop at the neighbors house last Sunday morning and discuss it with them.

The son answered the door and right away looked real nervous. I asked to come in and he obliged. I told him that he and his friends are a problem. They are a nusince and dangerous. I also reminded him that a few years ago when he was riding his bike, or on roller blades, we watched out for him and made sure that he was safe playing on the street. Now my kids can't ride their bikes in the street because he is now driving. It was not fair. I told him we were looking out for him. Now I need him to return the favor and look out for my kids.

About that time of the conversation his mother comes up from the basement. I told her we were discussing his driving habits. She said that he was warned about his driving and to call the cops the next time he bothers us. So I told him that everything is cool as long as he behaves, but if he or his friends continue, I will call the police. That is how I left it.

They were good all week. Until Friday evening. A pickup pulled up in front of my house and revs up the motor then speeds off down the street. So I call the kids Father and he says the gang is all there and I should call the police. "Its the only way they will learn".

So I did. The State Trooper came by and told me that he can't do anything unless he catches them. I can get a licence plate and call the county court and they will be issued a summons, go to court point out the kid and he will get the ticket same as if the police issued it. Then the trooper went to their house and talked to the kids. Don't know what he told them, but he was there about 20 minutes.

If that was my kid and neighbors were complaining, first thing I would do is take the truck away. Then tell his friends they are not allowed to come to the house anymore. If they do, I will call the police. Then I would have my kid put in a quiet muffler.

These parents act as though the 17 year old calls the shots and there is nothing they can do! What a gutless set of parents letting handling a problem with their kid by making the neighbor call the cops. The kid is not out of control. He gets good grades, is well behaved otherwise. So why do the parents let the kids walk all over them. Why do I have to call the cops?

Just really bad parenting if you ask me.
