looking for input, presently, 87" 48 spl, compression down from 145+ to 125 over 6 years, got a line on a 2013 40 Yamaha, with 120 hours, how would they compare power wise, at present runs about 20mph at 4300 to 4500, Yamaha has a much smaller prop, looks like a evinrude 25 or 35 prop. this maybe wrong forum, will also post on that forum

A 2013 Yamaha will be a 4stroke won't it ?
If so a bit poorer acceleration as well as being 8 hp less power
If it has the wrong prop then performance will be much poorer.
Probably a lot heavier but will use a lot less fuel

was going to pull the trigger on an E-tech,butttt, also saw u-tube video that compared 40 Yamaha, 40 Suzuki, 40 E tech and 30 E-tech, one test was 4 people in a aluminum boat, the 40 Yamaha couldn't get on plane, all others did, even the 30. the yamaha's OUT, leaning Suzuki now, when the 48 goes, in a couple of years hopefully

The 48 SPL is a very good motor.----One issue is the less than robust lower unit on them.-----Use the best gear oil in it and make sure seals keep the water out of it.

IMHO I'd stick with the Evinrude. I see Crowley Marine is advertising Evinrude parts sales which is a good thing.

As far as I know BRP is still in the parts business.----Just not building / marketing 2 stroke motors at this time.

I am interested. My BIL has an old OMC that he asked me to revive. It is much older and larger than the OMC's i have worked on. Motor is near Mathews VA. Can you post or PM me the shop's contact info? Thanks...
