Have you guys seen some of those new tv ads by GM? They are downright slanderous toward other auto makers, especially the ones with Howie Long. I'm sick of hearing him talk trash about other companies. It doesn't speak very highly of a company when they have to slander others just to convince the consumers to buy their products. I don't recall seeing any foreign auto makers making any negative comments about their competitors in their ads. The more times I see Howie Long on tv talking smack, the more it makes me want to go out and buy a new Tundra.

Desperation can and does have a negative impact. Here's to you kid, welcome to the modern influences of the trash TV era. :(

That step in the back on Fords isn't a terrible idea, I don't know why Howie hates it (maybe cuz he's paid to).

If it sells vehicles then it has worked for them, if not then as with you it will lose them sales. Time will tell.

As a disabled veteran who doesn't get around as well as I once did that step is part of the reason I bought my 2008 super duty I think Howie just needs to step in front of a moving Ford.:D

The ad that GM released making fun of the "man step" on the new F-150 actually helped to promote the feature, lol. Backfire. GM needs to back down from the attack ads. Domestic auto makers are on their side and GM is gonna need all the help they can get to pull themselves up.

I don't think I have ever seen an ad campaign that trashed the competition succeed.

I think that Howie is actually advertising the Ford tailgate step. :)

Conversely, the F150 commercials with Dennis Leary are 30 seconds of feature packed rock and roll that make me really think the Truck is worth something.

Not trying to start a Chevy/Ford thing here btw, I own a Jeep and a Jetta, so I guess I'm just biased toward J's...

What ever happened to 'See the USA in a Chevrolet'? They never spoke of the competition in those ads.

Re: GM's new tv ads

i just mute the TV, in all commercials.

DVR recorded, fly right past em..the little TV that I do watch..If I remember correctly, awhile back they were going to have DVR's with "commercial skip" where the entire commercials where deleted when recording...

Also..I really like Howie, lived about a mile away from him back in SoCal..But like Dennis Leary's comercials, even Mike Rowe's (dirty jobs/deadliest catch) ads better than HL's.

All the companies are in bad shape and just grabbing at straws... but i agree they should be poking fun at other manufactures :p

Haha Mike is the man. He used to do a local Real Estate info show here called "Your New Home". Believe it or not, he sang with the Baltimore Opera before his tv gigs.

As for the commercial skip feature, I know one company is definately working with networks to invent a freeze feature that will force you to watch commericals...My early ReplayTV had a skip feature, and I believe most still do, although undocumented. Found this on wikipedia;

an undocumented feature of the TiVo box is that the user can reprogram the tab-to-end button by entering a sequence of buttons on the remote: SELECT-PLAY-SELECT-3-0-SELECT and listening for the confirming chimes that signal the feature has been activated (or deactivated). The tab-to-end button no longer jumps to the end of a recording when so activated: It skips 30 seconds, which is the length of U.S. commercials. In combination with the 8-second rewind button, most viewers can completely miss commercial breaks in programming.

My Fios DVR sadly has no option yet.

I would think that with all the retired GM workers, Howie would have thought of that idea first :D Didn't Ford have a slogan "Ford has a better idea"?

i honestly had no clue about the "man step" until they bashed it.

And what ever the networks have to do to pay their bills i am ok with, If that means being forced to watch commercials, so be it.

The one I can't believe is that Saturn is still going with their "Rethink" campaign. Right now I think everyone needs to "Rethink" whether buying a Saturn is really a good idea! :)

I don't know too much about Saturn's, and don't really care as they don't have anything I'm interested in, but, my brother got an '08 Aura last year and I have to say I'm really impressed with it. It's a great little car. I haven't shopped any newer cars lately so I don't know how it stacks up with other new models/makes but it is quite nice. Only time will tell though.

I have no issues with the cars. Just that with GM openly talking about trying to dump the brand....now might not be the time to use ads with the slogan "rethink".
