Gluing transducer to transom

Hi All

Like the title says I want to glue a transducer to my transom. It's a 1960's 14ft aluminum with no existing holes even for the motor. (I just have an 8 HP I mount with only the clamps on the motor.) Anyways I really don't want to put any holes in it if I don't have to. The boat is a family heirloom and doesn't leak a drop even if I'm on the water 8 + hours.

Can I use a standard 2 part expoxy or should I get something better? Any tips on how to mount I'm fairly new to all this boating stuff.

Thanks!

Why not just get the suction cup bracket for it and not mess with epoxy or drilling. Thats the way we did it for years when we would rent boats for the week.

here is another solution for you that makes things so much simpler: Humminbird? Fishin Buddies : Cabela's

just mount it anywhere you are sitting when fishing and it uses 2or 3 regular "c" batteries so you don't have any wires or anything to hook up, it just lifts out of the bracket for easy storage when not fishing.

I used em for years with my flat boats in salt water so they hold up well to rain salt and abuse. I loved them because like you I didn't want to make holes in them.

oh and its very accurate and the detection is sensitive and spot on so its not a "cheap" depth finder, its a good quality unit

Could also do the bracket that mounts the transducer to a trolling motor.

I used a Sternmate kit. Easy to install and no holes. Plus it allows for adjustments.

All of the ideas above are good routes. If you're intent on permanently mounting it, I'd avoid the glue and just drill a hole in the back. Buy a cheap thru-hull fitting to make it look nice, and use marine sealant to keep your transom dry.
