I have a 89 mariner 100 hp serial#C135659.No fire to plugs. In pulling the flywheel (stator)off I had to whack the puller a few times to break it loose.I saw that 2 magnets had come un-glued .I don't know if I did it or not.For the last few times out it was very bad about not starting until it just would not run.Would loose magnets cause the motor to act like that. What I really need to know is what glue to use on the magnets.JBWELD says theirs will NOT work.I have heard that loctite blackmax might work.Loctite has 3 new ones out but can not find them(gluemymagnet.com).Any help would be appreciated.....THANKS...dargel167

Never use impact on a crank. It can damage magnets and also bearings. With the proper puller, it should come loose with torque only. Some cheap pullers have a coarse thread push bolt, and that sometimes won't push hard enough. A steering wheel/harmonic damper puller is not the right tool.

When a magnet comes loose, it generally totally trashes the stator.

hope it helps

Re: gluing magnets to flywheel

what he said and yes it can be glued.
I went to the local ace hardware/marine in my area and picked up the two part mix.
First sand the flywheel reallt good and clean with brake cleaner or alcohol.
also sand the magnet and clean as well.
mix the epoxy glue follow directions and let set for 24 hours.
check the others also for loosenes.
I ran some of the mixture around the others magnets for safe measure.

If you can't find the mix I will pick it up and send it to you.
also check the Iboats store here,,,maybe they have it.

Re: gluing magnets to flywheel

Thank you guys for the info.I did find out that OMC makes an epoxy p/n 0431929 that CDI told me about. It does not say it works on magnets but they say it does.I had already ordered a new product made by loctite for magnets,Loctite 331 & activator 7387.It cost me $75 so I felt compelled to use it.It can be ordered thru FASTENAL.COM......THANKS AGAIN for the help....That epoxy can be had at marineengine.com.dargel 167
