Glastron GS279 owners - do you like the boat?

I am considering moving up from the GX255 bowrider to the GS279. Wondering if its a well liked boat, a stable seaworthy boat (in the "chop") and how many people can realistically go out for a day on such a boat (I have had as many as 12 on my Bowrider). Also, what did you pay (ballpark) for the boat? I would buy in the off-season to save $ for sure.

*Bump*

Doesn't anyone out there own one of these things? Can anyone either endorse the boat after owning one and captaining it for a few seasons, or say its worth, or not worth the price?

Figured that I'd ask one more time.

Re: Glastron GS279 owners - do you like the boat?

We just bought a new GS-259 (2007) We loved the value of the boat but realize it's not a Regal, donzi, Sea-ray etc. etc.... Haven't had her in the water yet but it was 20 grand less than similar boats in the same category.. Reviews of it have been good but come to think of it, I've yet to read a "bad" review of any new boat

Any update on the Glastron performance? Likes, dislikes?

I have a 2001 GS249 with a 5.7 volvo and like it was stated earlier, a little cheaper boat but still a nice overall boat. Mine will do about 43 or 44 MPH. Not too bad on gas. Has a nice layout. Wish I got one year newer (they had corian countertops) and one with A/C. But it has all the other options. Really can't complain about it. Light enough to trailer too.

We bought a 2006 GS297 and love it. Had no problems, performs very well. The service folks at Glastron are the best that I've ever dealt with.

I cant say enough about the boat,,, we bought it a Volvo 5.7 GXI 320HP and 5KW Gen set with Heat/AC. We were lucky, we got the last of the 2006's so we actually got a 2007 interior

We paid 63k with a 2007 EzLoader (Boat Show price) with all the option the boat priced out at 82k new....

Re: Glastron GS279 owners - do you like the boat?

We just purchased a 05 GS249 for 25K. Boat has every option including heat/ac, 80 original hours and we got an extended warranty through 2011 that all we had to do was pay a one time $40 fee to Volvo to transfer. None of the cabin amenities were ever used ie: stove, micro, fridge, cushions, etc.. It has 1 small ding port side on the rub rail and other than that is in absolute mint condition. Our boat only has the 5.0 and I was worried with performance, but it is just the wife and I usually and I can hold plane at 2800 RPM @ 17 MPH. Fuel economy is fine at this speed and we are not in a hurry to go anywhere. It has a 15X19 aluminum prop and I am looking for a deal on a stainless version now which I think will get us up on plane quicker. We have owned about 30 boats over the last 40 years in 17'-35'. This isn't the newest, largest or most expensive boat we've owned to date, but we have never been happier with a boat so far. Glastron sure has a great layout and utilizes 26' very well!!!

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON PROPS IS MOST WELCOME:)

I'm seriously thinking about buying either a 2008 Glastron 259,269 or 279 cruiser. I know nothing about Glastron. I've owned Bayliners the past 12 years. Are these cruisers considered lake, bay or ocean boats? Or all 3? Can they withstand ocean cruising?

I am also interested in them, I just haven't had the chance to climb around on one. I would like to have an overnighter/cruiser with genset and ac.
Also heard a rumor about a 289 coming out, anyone else?

Re: Glastron GS279 owners - do you like the boat?

We are now in our second season with the GS-259.. We love the boat.. A few things that are minor but annoying are the camper canvas fits very tight and it's a PITA to get all the snaps snapped. On anything but smooth water the sound of the waves lapping on the hull at night keeps me awake. The shower sump pump occasionaly gets airlocked.. The batteries provided with the boat were really cheap (replaced with AGM batts this spring).. The #8 dansforth style anchor provided with the boat is too small in my opinion.Trailer was not properly set up by the dealer. Other than that, I can't complain about the boat at all.. It's a great value and we're happy we didn't spend double for a similar boat with a better name..We actually like the layout and the use of space better than the sea ray 240 or 260.. There is no genset option for the 259 but we bring a Honda EU2000i portable and bungie it to the swim platform. It has enough power to run the AC but you can't run the AC and the stove or microwave at the same time. It's very quiet and easy on gas.. Much cheaper than a "real" genset but not as convenient
