I need some input from the members of this forum. I am thinking about purchasing a glastron 1980 tri-hull to be used mainly in the laguna madre in Texas. This boat is 14 ft tri-hull and will be used mainly to go about 2-3 miles top in either direction from the ramp. I will be having to use the intercoastal and canals to reach some of what I hope will be desireable fishing spots. I know I will probably not get very shallow with this boat but I figure It should probably run in two feet of water. Am I off on this point!

Re: glastron boat tri-hull

With my 15 foot tri hull, I have a 6 hp kicker along with the 85 chrysler. My kicker is on the port side of the transom on a bracket, so when it is lowered and being used, the prop and skeg are still above, or higher than, the bottom of the hull vee. My sonar transducer is located on the starboard side of the transom about 9 inches higher than the bottom of the vee. I can power through an "indicated" (from the transducer) depth of 1.5 feet. At that indicated depth, there is actually about 9 inches under the bottom of the vee. The kicker will kick up mud at that indicated depth. Indicated depth could go as low as 1 foot I suppose but I think I would start dragging the bottom occasionally. I will usually tilt the main engine when the indicated depth is 2 feet or less to protect the main engine cooling system from foreign substance ingestion.
