Git rot alternatives?

I've heard that Git rot is simply thinned down epoxy resin. Ive got 2 soft stringers that I am not about to start ripping up. I bought one pint at 45$ but would need a few more for the job and I am trying to find an alternative. I found poly resin at Walmart for $8 a pint. Now, I realize they're not the same and that poly resin is crap, but I got to thinking.
What would happen if I drilled 1/2 inch holes every few inches and injected the resin into the wood? Its pretty rotted out, so I am pretty sure it would soak in. The fiberglass matting has kept the stringers pretty rigid even though the wood inside is rotted. If I kick the stringers, they just barely move. I plan to put more matting over them when Im done treating the wood for added strength.
Yes, no?
Thanks for all the help with my newest addition to the family.

Go to transomrepair.com stuff called seacast. All you would have to do is cut top of stringers clean out rotten wood pour in sea cast glass top of stringers back & your done. I used this stuff in my transom works great.

Re: Git rot alternatives?

I have found the same thing in the back of my Bayliner. I have somewhat patched one up by putting the GIT Rot down into the wood that is there, and now I have gone back and filled in most of it with MarineTex. The part that was still showing since there was a pretty big hole, I filled full of Evercoats "Kitty Hair". This stringer that I have done this way seems to be extremely solid now. Of course I am going to go back and reglass everything with the Fiberglass cloth and resin once I get it smoothed out and ready to finish.

The other side I haven't finished yet, but should start working on filling it in tommorrow, due to waiting for the GitRot to set that I put in on Monday. Figured I would make sure that had some time to set before I packed it full of the other things.

Has anyone else done this before using these items?

Thanks,
Bryan Cox
