Removed my alpha one gen 2 out drive as part of an engine removal, and found my gimbal to be cracked with a quarter size hole in the exhaust recess. Anyone have ideas on where to find a cheap replacement? eBay is not such a great deal right now.

Re: Gimbal

No such thing as just a plain "Gimbal" back there. Exactly which part are you looking for?

I think I know the answer to this, but alpha one gen 1 won't work with alpha one gen 2?

Re: Gimbal

Nope, won't work.

What causes holes like that is an improperly installed hose clamp on the bellows. I pushes right into that area.

Good to know when I reinstall. I really hadn't anticipated the cost of a bell housing when I estimated costs for an oil pan and manifolds. I knew there would be some stuff, but not a $400+ item.

Check Craigslist. Lots of Alpha parts on CL around here, perhaps the same is true for NC. That's not a part that normally wears out so finding a used one should not be too hard.

Bit the bullet and found one for $300. Found the transom rebuild kit for $80 with new gimbal bearing, gasket, o rings, and bellows. Next week it will be pulling the engine to replace the oil pan and exhaust manifolds and risers.
