I have a volvo-penta DP-SX drive and the gimbal boot tore and water froze the bearing and the bearing spun inside the housing, so the new bearing doesn't fit tight. Is there anything to do besides replacing the transom shield and if not, do I have to pull the motor to do it?

Post your question in Mercruiser, OMC, Volvo & other I/O & Inboard Engines & Outdrives and you'll get a much better response.

Yes, you must replace the transom shield, and yes you have to pull the engine.

Thanks Don, Is it worth considering a used transom sheild at $1500 instead of new one at $2500? It sure is a lot of labor if the used one is subpar.
