So I get the dumb a## award this week. I recently installed a new gimbal bearing in project Sea Ray (bravo Drive), and installed it the same way the old one came out so the old one was wrong also :blue:. I had nothing to do with that. Well I was reading some recent threads in the this forum and realized that it was install with the "Bearing Carrier Notch" facing out not in like stated in the Merc Manuals. It is my understating that that the only reason its installed facing in is so that the bearing can not be removed from the carrier and gets replaced as an assembly. So my questions are is there any other reason I need to remove and reinstall the bearing? If I do need to remove and re-install it will it be damaged when pulling it out and need to be replaced? I used a slide hammer to get the old one out!!!! It's brand new Merc part and it's never been run though. Lastly I read that a new "Tolerance Ring" will be needed if I do remove it? I can not believe I missed this and consider myself a better mechanic than this, really PO'ed at myself :facepalm::facepalm:. Measure twice cut once :cold:. As always any advice in much appreciated.

No need to remove and replace, it will work just fine for years the way it is. They want it facing in just as you found out, so folks don't try to replace just the center
