Gimbal Bearing install

Is it possible for me to install a new Gimbal (with ring) in my Mercruiser R drive without the special tool? Can I knock the bearing out of the old ring and use the ring as the driver?

While on the subject, is Pennzoil white Marine grease suitable for the Gimbal bearing?

Yes its possible..Take a look at this link.<br />Use a good marine grease on the gimble. Wal Mart sells it. Gimble Bearing Replacement
