Does anyone know if the u-joints on this particular setup have zerks? I've never pulled the drive so don't know first hand. I know someone’s standard response will be "buy the manual" so hold your breath for someone that is kind enough to just answer the question. (btw: it's on order)

Also a similar question to the "How much grease in gimbal?" Post for a 5.7L Mercruiser Alpha One. Since this is a Volvo, does the same hold true? 5-10 pumps? Any recommendation on the type of grease?

If the u-joints are sealed, is there any reason to pull the drive until something fails? Does engine ever need re-aligning if the motor or drive are never removed?

Thanks to all that respond. There is a wealth of info on this site and has been very valuable.

John.

Usually there isn't zirks on the ujoints from Volvo. But some of the earlier units did have them, don't remember which year they changed.
Best way to lube a gimbal bearing (at least yearly) is to remove the drive, pump grease into the gimbal bearing, turn it 1/3rd turn and pump some more. Pump all the old grease out of the bearing and fill with new. Then be sure to wipe out all the excess grease before putting the drive back on. It's also a great time to check the alignment.
