Gimbal Bearing Alpha One

This Gimbal bearing thing. Is it something that has to be or should be lubed and checked. If so, how often and the procedure for doing so. 1989 Sear Ray 3.0. No excess noise or anything but the book doesn't address this issue. Thanks for your time.

Inspect annually (Pull drive). Grease every 60 days. Thats what Mercruiser says. You need a better book.

You should pull the drive each seasons end and this will give you the access you need to check it.Put your finger on the bearing and turn it.It should glide with your finger turning it.No resistance or any other feeling but gliding smoothly.If you keep the boat in water grease it once in the spring and then immediately when you haul it in the fall.Charlie
