this last friday in kingfisher county. some geysers started comming out of the ground. one is ten feet high and they are still going. the national park patrol does not know what they are going to do yet. they ruled out a pipe line break. they are still trying to see where the gas is comming from. I will keep you all informed. Rwise have you heard anything else yet. I have been busy at work and just heard it.
Serenity

Here is what I found from the KTEN web site and the associated press

Officials analyzing composition of gas geysers

OKLAHOMA CITY A natural gas drilling rig may be to blame for the releases of explosive vapors near Kingfisher.

Corporation Commission spokesman Matt Skinner says the data and the evidence point to a Chesapeake Energy Corporation drilling operation about 12 miles west of Okarche.

Gas has been shooting to the surface along a five-mile section of Winter Camp Creek and some of the geysers are within about a mile of the town of Kingfisher.

The Chesapeake rig experienced an unusually large flow of gas last week and investigators are trying to determine if gas from this well may have moved laterally to the creek area.

Chesapeake plans to turn the exploratory rig into a producing well by Thursday to draw off the natural gas that may be to blame for the geysers.

Vice President Tom Price Junior says the company would do everything it could to rectify the situation and help local residents who may be affected.

Hunters first noticed the leak last Friday and told a game warden who notified the commission, which regulates the oil and gas industry.

Serenity, I have seen it in the news and whats listed here is about all I have heard about it.

I do know that natural gas wells often have 1000 psi head pressure round these parts anyway. If its from this I would expect oil is the next thing to spew from the ground! My parents have interest in an oil field and I have seen the head pressure on the well/s, if they hit a really big one who knows what it could do, maybe spew gas/water/oil everywhere! I wonder how it is effecting the ground water for those on wells in the area?

I do know they shut off some type of gas line and it made the geyser shoot taller and more force if it was that oil rig would it not quit if the gas line was shut off? I just pray for the familys down there
Serenity
My grandparents also have a new gas wells on their land but I don't know much about them. It is a shame all that gas going to waist and if flameable as dry as we are here. I have had firemen come to my work that were from Kansas and Colorado to help us put our fire out. and one told me that if we don't get some rain soon Feb. is our fire season.

You can estimate the pressure of a well by dividing the depth of the well by 2.

10,000 ft well is around 5000 psi. Many times it is 1.5 times greater than this.

The well must have had and "underground blowout". That means the pressure from down deep has fractured the dirt up shallower. Those fractures can lead to the surface but it is very very rare.

When they run pipe, it should seal it off.

Ken

Ken is right about the "blowout", there just has never been blowouts that far away.
They are supposed to do something today to relieve the well pressure.

Any way ya look at it, sounds as though it’s a potential recipe for disaster. Hope all ends up OK.

I never did hear the "rest of the story" on this.
As a small child we used to pass through Kingfisher on our way to OK city.
