I've got an old 350 OMC that got water in the oil last spring while I was on vacation. I was restoring an old starcraft, and didn't have an engine cover built yet. I covered it with a tarp for 3 weeks and it rained the whole time. I figure there is maybe 1/4 cup of water in the bottom. I've changed oil 3 times, and can't seem to get it all out. I use a pump hooked to the dipstick holder, given me by the PO. I get over 4 1/2 qt, but it holds 5. If I stand on my head with my legs on the left gunnel, and my arm twisted around the fuel tank, stringer, rib (that may be my appendage), and engine mount I can get my hand on the drain plug. If I take it out, and let the remaining oil drain into the boat, What can I use to replace it with that I can hook a hose onto to I can drain it that way easier? I figure maybe put a ballcock on the other end of the hose. Weather's gonna turn cold, don't want it freezing in there.

Re: Getting water out of oil.

Howdy,

While I would like to promote the iboats model, I used one that I got from Overtons. for around $30

Just like the one below.

I clamped it to my port riser like below.....

Using a vacuum type oil extractor, I get the oil out in about 5 min hot or cold.

That's what I'm looking for. At present I use a drill pump, and it leaves just a bit. Have to figure which one I need, probably the 1/2 inch one as it's an old engine from the 70's.

Run the motor and change the oil while it is hot.The water that you claim is in the motor will be blended with the oil when you remove it.Charlie
