I have seen this product used before at the river, however it seems younger dogs have it a lot easier than older dogs. and it looks to mount really steep for the raised height of a pontoon.

my question for those of you who boat with large dogs, how do you get them back aboard if not near shore or dock.

I was thinking of locating one of those used plastic kids play sliding boards and installing some extra fenders I have underneath for bouyancy and attaching 1 x 2 strips across it like a gang plank, and painting it with non skid, cost under $ 30 ....

dogie PFD...yea right, he weighs like 97 lbs, he can swim forever, but it a real bear trying to get him back on board. I'm 6'04 and a big boy and don't think I could pull him up 2 feet from the water to the deck......
I looked at one at the pet store and the neck area looked like it would strangle him and it was the XL size...thus my need to create a ramp/ floating gang plank

a boom and a winch comes to mind, like you might have on the end of trailer or pick up truck

I saw a "floating" ramp somewhere that dogs can run up and board the boat from the water on. not sure how well it works though, especially with a larger dog.

I'm sure if I could rig a floating or partially floating deck that I could attach to the side of the boat he could just jump back on, but its getting him from 2 feet under the water to 2 feet out of the water that is the problem..

we tried to train him to climb the ladder in our pool, he has made it out via the ladder several times, but the ladder is about 12 inches away from the pool deck, but the ladder on the boat is a modified dock ladder that clips in place on the side of the pontoon, its agains the side of the boat and vertical and almost tips you back when a person climbing out of the water...last time I was able to get in the water and boost him up with paws on the ladder while my wife struggled on the collar/harness.....

thats what i saw, not sure if it would help or not. never seen anything like it until today.

yea, I linked that in my first post, it doesn't have good reviews for large dogs

plus all the extras parts I would need to adapt it to my ladder are ridiculous.

You could always use the steps of a 6' aluminum ext ladder. I have a 90lb lab and he can climb my ext ladder with relative ease as well as our (fully vertical) pool ladder.

We have both a big and medium dog and both can climb them pretty well. I'm still working on how to stow a big enough ladder on my bowrider.

perhaps a discarded tykes plastic sliding board, with the ladder steps attached to the slides then rigged to a swim platform and the deck would do the trick.

yea, I have a wanted to BUY ad on my local Craigslist, but the people that have the old kids Little tykes stuff somehow think its gold, they are asking a few dollars less than wal-mart wants new....I need a slide about 5 foot to reach the pontoon deck to just under the water, Little tykes makes a 5 foot slide, but they are real expensive new.....waiting to see if someone hits my ad....thanks

We got one that fits our 154 lb greater swiss mountain dog at Cabela's

My buddy made a aramp for his dogs a few years back and still uses it today. It's a 6ft. aluminum ladder that he strapped a sheet of plastic pegboard to the bottom side of and styrofoam at one end. He put two brackets under the front of his pontoon that he runs a aluminum bar through the top rung and through the brackets on each side. When he's done using it it slides under the pontoon like a drawer, works great.
