was cruising in my boat at 3000 rpm's and the warning beeper went off and noticed the temp gauge was going from 100 to about 150 and when i slowed down the temp stabilized at about 150, does that indicate a bad themostat?

Since every boat and power package is NOT the same, how about letting us in on what you have. Engine Make, Model Number, Year, even a serial number.Along with drive type, make and model.
All alarms systems are not created equal.

Mercrisers had the same alarm for 3 things. Low oil pressure, High coolant temp, and low gear lube monitor.
Since the temp alarm shouldn't go off till about 200°, I would be looking at the gear lube monitor. Is it low?
When the alarm goes off, disconnect one at a time till the alarm goes off. That is probably the offendng sender.
