Plenty to pick from from those two companies.
Personally, I would lean toward the older glass rods for a crankbait. The graphites are so stiff that you really have to work to cast them. And we are talking crankbaits here, not lightwight jigging where sensetivity is more important.

What are you fishing for? bass, walleye, musky/northern, ???

http://www.stcroixrods.com/spincastrods.asp#

Hi Skeeterboy -
First things first ... find the style and action rod you like then strap on the reel you intend to use to note how they balance and fit your hand.
IMHO - That's the key to comfortable casting no matter what the price tag and name brand.

Have a few of both but, am a bit biased toward St. Croix. Not only because they're made here in Wisconsin (Park Falls - Rough Grouse capital of the world :D ) but, I've fished with them for years and have only myself to blame for any failures or breaks. I think Loomis is made out west in Washington or Oregon.

One thing to note ...I understand Loomis is back rolling golf club shafts again ... so it makes me wonder a bit if 100% of their efforts (departmentally) are still concentrated on their rods..??

Both are American Companies with International followings.

Both have different product lines (series) as far as component grades with-in a specific catagory.

The quality is there with both ... same with All Star rods, a Texas company. These are in the high end of things ... and you shouldn't have to worry about either.
Balance and feel in-hand is #1 concern here.

..just my 2 cents worth... take care.

i decided on getting the Avid series st. Croix rod for my crankbaiting needs. I took it out this weekend and loved it!! Great sensativity for a "graphite" rod.
