Getting a 20ft searay 200 weekender for $400

I am getting a boat tomarrow, But not that good on motors :/
Any ideas on what i should look at to see if the motor is in good condition?
Its from a friend but you never know who you can trust these days!

Do you know anything about marine engines and drives? If not, I would recommend a boat surveryor for $100. There is an overwhelming amount of items to look at on a boat and if you are new to the hobby you could really get burned. Of course a $400 investment in a boat is not a lot but if the boat has a cracked engine block, rotted transom and floors its pretty much a wasted $400. It is definitely not like buying a used car, so if you want to keep your friend I would definitely get a third party involved.

That's a $400 down payment on a $4000 purchase. Beware.

I know a little bit of stuff...but not enough
Thats probably what im going to have to do is get a surveyor,

Ive been told that a couple times..and it seems to be everyone who knows about boats.
But its just a fun summer project for me and two other friends...hopefully im not the only one putting in work and mullah here.

The boats in Indiana and im in Michigan :/
But i wasa told its a 350 mercruiser.
bought a mercruiser last year for my dads boat..i know a used one isnt that much.
