I've got a small daycruiser (19ft) and have always been on the lakes of N. Ga. and upstate SC. My wife wants to go to the beach this year and I thought that maybe we could take the boat down with us. Does anybody have any recommendations for interesting tours to take with the boat around the Hilton Head area, or perhaps the Savannah, Tybee Area or something along those lines. Fishing interests me, but my wife and kids would be interested in sights and dockside attractions along the way.

I'm not really planning on the offshore thing, though I am equipped with the safety gear, radio, gps, etc.

Thanks in advance if anybody has any recommendations.

'Can't help with fishing, but we do spend some time on the ICW.

We've done the Savannah and Hilton Head areas, but I would encourage you to splash a little farther north -- at Charleston.

Charleston ashore is fascinating, and while the harbor can sometimes be daunting, it is always a memorable experience for us.

I'd recommend a splash at Isle of Palms Marina - very nice marina, very protected.
http://www.isleofpalmsmarina.com/

It's a little over 6 miles, south to the Harbor, a pleasant run. Once in the harbor, you can see Ft Sumter, the majestic homes on the Battery, get right up next to the carrier Yorktown, scoot over to the City Marina. When you're finished seeing the sights, head to Shem Creek and tie up at one of the restaurants for dinner.

From the harbor it's about 60 miles north to Georgetown or south to Beaufort. Either direction is great, but I'd recommend Georgetown for the first excursion. But maybe you'd stay close by, heading through Elliots Cut, down the Stono River to Folly Island. I don't recommend running the Stono Inlet, but there's a beach on the Kiawah side at the inlet and another on Bird Key on the Folly River for swimming or just wiggling your toes in the sand.

Follow the Folly River east past the back-side of Folly Beach, under the bridge, and if you know the way (I could send you a Gramin track if you're interested) you can get all the way to the Morris Island Lighthouse. There are some great beaches on the way to the light for swimming, exploring or overnighting.
http://www.savethelight.org/

On the way back, tie up at Cappys Restaurant.
http://www.ohwy.com/sc/c/capseafr.htm

I've rambled on enough. Drop me an 'e' if I can be of further assistance.

Nick in Spartanburg, SC
http://www.geocities.com/jeff_nicholas/BBR.html

Wow, that gives me a ton of stuff to look at. Thanks! If we can manage to make this happen, it will be in early July. I'll be sure to let you know how it comes out. Thanks again for your help, Nick.
