The General was recovering from emergency gall bladder surgery and driving
the medical staff nuts. His shouted orders and demands had begun to distract
the nurses from other patients and had them at their wits end. When the
General thought the staff was not jumping fast enough to suit him he
demanded to see the doctor. About an hour later a man in scrubs and a
surgical mask came into the room.

"Let's see if we can't get you out here, General. I just need to make sure
you aren't running any low-grade fever. So turn over on your stomach and
we'll take your temp."

The old soldier rolled over and the medic inserted the instrument saying it
was going to take a few minutes and he would be right back.

About ten minutes later a nurse came in, looked at the General and said,
"Are you alright, sir?"

"Yes, he!! yes, haven't you ever seen a man getting his temperature taken?"

"Yes sir, but with a daffodil?"
