Gears Grinding?

OK, so I spun my shaft and here's what I'm hearing...

I spun it some then at 10 sec I actually grab the shaft and lift it up while I am spinning it (quiet), let let it down while spinning it again.

Are my gears grinding? Normal? Not normal? Wassup?

Thanks in advance fellas!

Re: Gears Grinding?

At rest, there is no clearance between the pinion and the forward/reverse gears.... metal to metal pressing contact.

When running, hydraulic pressure forces the pinion and driveshaft up against the installed shims, resulting in the designated clearance between the gear teeth.

Unless someone has goofed with the assembly of the gearcase, what you're encountering is normal.
