Gearcase Question

Found a gearcase laying around that doesn't fit my 5.5 fisherman, its too big. The part number is 302492. Its roughtly 6" long and 3" wide<br /><br />Its the bigger one in this pic<br />

Yep, the one on the left is for the 5.5/6/7.5/9.5/and 10s from '58 on up. The one on the right would fit the 10s up to '57,15s from '53 to '56, and 18s from '57 on up to the late 1960s.<br />- Scott

Oh yeah.... the manuals will tell you that you can't mix skegs with different gearcases, other than the one they came off of due to the skeg being line-bored with the gearcase housing at assembly time. However, in practice, most of the time a mis-matched skeg can work on most gearcase housings of the same type. Occasionally you'll get one that won't seal, but most of the time they'll work just fine. ...<br />- Scott

Thanks Scott., looks like I have a spare to keep for my Fisherman, and one to sell on ebay.
