Gearbox replacement question...

hey guys,

the gearbox on my engine is a bit unwell, and ideally needs to be replaced. I have been having a look around, and found a couple used ones for sale on well known auction sites.

one of them is a good price, but the casing is damaged (lower unit outer case).

So, i was pondering about purchasing it, and then stripping the new gearbox, and moving it to my existing lower unit shell..

I have no idea how difficult this is, but i am imagining, its not the easiest job in the world.

Can anybody offer any adivce about this, should i consider doing it, or is it not worth it?

My other plan, is to sell on the engine as is, as a project for somebody else, and replace the whole outboard with something a bit newer, which is quite tempting right now.

So, any suggestions welcomed?

Thanks in advance,

Alec.
