Gearbox noise when idling

Hi All

I have still yet to do a compression test/spark test, however, my 125 force revving to about 3800 rpm maybe something different before I start testing.

I started my boat today on the earmuffs, and could hear a 'grinding' noise from the lower case. Even though the gearbox was overhauled some 8 hours ago- could a clutch problem be causing the lack of rpm? Any other symptoms you want me to look for to help further? The engine runs smooth, and idles well, its just this grinding noise that is a bit pronounced when the boat is idling.

Any ideas? If you want me to post an mp3 of the noise- I probably can- I just dont know how well it would turn out.

Cheers

First thing drain the oil.Look for metal shavings/pieces of gears.
No metal. Then the bearings probably need to be replaced.
The dog wouldn't slow the motor down.J
