Hi there, while there are a few ways of figuring out what the gear ratio could be, one way would be usually having your stern drive serial number helps with finding your gear ratio especially if the engine wasn’t registered correctly when sold new when a Mercruiser dealer search’s the engine serial number.

inline 4 cylinder use a 1.98-1 except for the FWC 470 type
it uses a 1.84
V6 uses a 1. 65 or 1.84
smal block V8 use 1.50 in Alpha drives
BB in Alpha uses 1.32 but have since shifted to Bravo drives

Also i believe some 5.0 powered boats came with a 1.62 drive from factory. My boat and three of my neighbors were factory shipped with 1.62 drives if equipped with a 5.0 carb or mpi.

Ayuh,..... That's the grey area, where the size of the hull comes into play,....
A smaller hull with a V8 will run the 1.5:1, where a heavy hard to push hull will run the 1.62:1,.....
Like the V6 in a smaller hull likes the 1.65:1, vs: a heavy hull might need the 1.84:1 ratio,....

Yes. Qbouys boat has 5.0 mpi w a 1.47 drive. In my sea ray 200 (heavy and beamy) the drives were the following based on engine -
4.3 carb 190 hp - 1.81
4.3 mpi 220 hp- 1.62
5.0 carb 220 hp - 1.62
5.0 MPI 260 hp- 1.62

When I repowered from a 4.3 carb=>5.0 with 4 bbl carb and intake (260 hp) I kept the 1.81 drive and went up in pitch from 19" to 21" ...hits wot rpm perfectly ...
