i changed the gear oil in my 1992 johnson 4 hp/2-cyl outboard today and noticed oil was coming out of the other side. There is a small hole on the opposite side of the lower unit than the fill and vent holes are that is not shown in the manual. I was just wondering if this was normal or could something be wrong. I just bought the motor and replaced the water pump today as well. Thanks.

Welcome to iboats.

No that is not normal, sounds like you missed the drive shaft seal and the oil is coming out there, definately needs to be fixxed before you take it out.

Shouoldn't be too hard to find, just pull it apart again and see where the oil is coming from.
