Gear lube ?

What type of gear lube should I use in a '87 60hp merc.? Also how long do u let drain before re-filling. How much oil should it take. First time winterizing this motor, just bought it in summer. Everything seems ok and no metal shavings to be worried about. I just want to make sure I put correct gear lube in.

Umm...gear lube isn't as sensetive a thing as the quality of oil in fuel, but i would try to use merc or yamaha or bombardier, it should be 90 or 85-100 weight, i would expect that motor to hold 32 ozs or so maybe less if not bigfoot model. Close to that, the sqeeze tubes are usually 16 ozs. Get a quart and little pump that screws on(6 dollars).
