Doing this on my phone so stay with me. Noticed today there was gear lube in the bilge about one cup. I cracked the drain screw and clean lube came out and I cracked the vent/fill screw and lube came out. I have a photo but can't post from my phone. Any ideas? It's a bravo3.

Were you running the boat or has it been sitting?

Have a look at the oil reservoir for oil residue.

Not sure about a bravo 3 but when that happened to my boat the upper stern drive oil seal was shot. Had to pull the yoke out and replace the oil seal inside the oil retainer. It is a very easy job, you will need a few special tools to pull the yoke and torque everything back together to spec.

Thanks guys. The boat has been sitting. I can see a bunch of gear lube above the driveshaft.

No Title

Figured out hot to upload photo. The angle is strange but the gear lube is above the shaft.

Have you traced out and checked the tube that runs from the gear lube reservoir to the transom assembly? Base on your picture, that is where I would be looking first. Has the level in the reservoir changed?

This boat is only about 1 year old, right?

Don't know if this helps,
I had a film of heavy duty oil in bilge. But engine is an 84 and everything is original and old . Engine also has a slight oil leak
Power wash and de grease the bilge often

This season had lower unit impeller pump changed and gear oil was topped off
Thinking why do I have so much oil in bilge but just chalked it up too old boat & engine

After 1/2 doz short fishing trips I checked gear oil in lower unit.
Was surprised it was loaded with water , not milky oil all water

I was lucky did no damage,
Took boat too a mom & pop shop here in Orlando seems a number of seals
in upper part of lower unit was causing gear oil too dump into bilge

Ding, Ding, Ding, we have a winner. Don't know why it would break on a 1.5 year old boat but it did. I started another thread on how to replace the part. It looks like a real pain to get to and replace. I will be calling the marine service place down the street from the boat and see if its covered under warantie. If it is and the lead time to fix it is less than 4 weeks (booked every weekend) then I will let them do it. If not I will do it myself.
