I am now in the process of having my '94 70hp evinrude completely rebuilt. The only gauge I have is a trim/tilt gauge. The cluster on my counsel has cut outs for about 4 more. What and if any gauges should I add. I want to try to reduces my chances, as much as I can, of having my cylinders score again.
Thanks

Re: gauges

I would look into a tach and water pressure gauge to start with. Did you find out why the piston(s) scored?

Good luck!

Re: gauges

I still don't know why it happened. Ruled out VRO, but just in case it will be disabled. I think the gauges are already prewired. Anyone have a good place to look to buy gauges.
Thanks

Howdy, Dtro. I agree with Dhadley: Tach, water pressure, voltmeter, water temp, in that order of priority. Cabelas can give you about as good prices and selection as anyone. You might also try West Marine and Bass Pro Shops.

Red sky at night. . .
JB

Re: gauges

Did you score number 2 (middle) cylinder the worst?

Good luck!

Re: gauges

Yes, in fact #2 was the only one. You know why?

Re: gauges

There is a few sets of new gauges for OMC on eBay. A search for "OMC gauges" turned up 3 different auction sites. Bids are currently $20-$50.
LoL

Re: gauges

Those motors sometimes have a habit of running lean in the mid range. It usually picks on number two the most. I would richen up the mid range circuits (in all 3 carbs) by about 3 numbers. Remember -- if the mid range jet is an air jet you must go down in size to richen. Anyway it can't hurt a thing to do so. By the way -- stick to Champion plugs (QL77JC4) and 87 octane (FRESH). And make sure your mechanic used the latest style impeller.

Good luck!
