I am in the middle of rewiring my project boat and have ran into a difficulty figuring my gas gauge wiring. I can get all of the lights to work on the other gauges but not this one. I did pull the lightbulb out of one of the working gauges but no luck. There are four terminals on the back,, one is I, one is S, and the other is on the opposite end of the light bulb plug. I have put the hot wire on the I, ground on the ground, and a ground wire on the opposite side of the bulb. What am I doing wrong???

Re: gauge wiring

It would be helpfull if i listed all four, sorry. 1. Letter "H" or "I" (Depending on how you look at it 2. Letter "S" 3. Ground Post 4. Not labeled but is right next to light bulb to complete circuit. Thanks Wayne

Re: gauge wiring

#1 "I" To ignition
#2 "S" To Sending Unit
#3 "G" Ground
#4 Terminal for light(Can be powered by a Jumper from another light) such as Tach.or Speedo gauge light. Hope this helps and make sure the ground is good on the Gas gauge.

Re: gauge wiring

You should get continuity from a terminal to the center post of the light socket, and gnd to the outside of the socket. If that all works then its bulb or bulb contact in the socket. I bet you are to hook up posts 4 and 3, where 4 is hot .The 4 hot should come off your instrument or running lights lights switch. post "I" would turn on the gauge when the motor is running, switched with the ignition.

Re: gauge wiring

Thanks to all for all the great help. Turns out I didnt have power connected to the back side of the light which would be the reason for no power to the light,,,,, now the light bulb is burnt out. Go figure. Once again thanks to all.
