gauge issue

I installed a new fuel hose today and got my motor un winterized. 89 5.7 Mercruiser , Alpha 1. But I have somehow created another issue. When I was running on the muffs my temp gauge did not move and my fuel gauge showed empty with a 3/4 full tank, I was able to see 150 degrees with an infrared thermometer. When I turn on any of my accessories with the engine off (lights, blower, or pump) the gauges peg full right. If I turn on the ignition, key on- engine off, I see the real fuel level ,and the other gauges look correct too.
I assume ( I know, dangerous words) I must have bumped something or somehow messed up a ground. Any ideas what to check?

You can start by making sure battery connections are clean and tight (w/wrench or pliers, not hand)
