I am finishing a Chris Craft replica Glen-l Monaco (pics here) and I am shopping for Gauges. I have found a set of gauges that I think look sort of vintage yet they are new. These are Teleflex Black Sterlings:

I have also found these Faria's that I think look very classy too, but they have gold trim rings and all of the deck trim will be chrome or polished stainless:

I personally think the gold will look pretty sharp against a Mahogany dash panel, and I believe I can get these for half the cost of the Sterling's above. I also like the 65 MPH speedo and 6000 RPM tach better than 70 and 7000. Thoughts?

Both are really nice QC,I'm like you though and think the gold trim would look great with the wood dash.

The gold. Besides the price is right.

hello,

the gold trim looks boatish... the top set looks stewart warnerish... automotive. both are very nice, imo, and i would be ok with either...

but i vote for the gold.

Thanks. For what it is worth, most Chris runaboats in the 40s' used automotive gauges and hardware. I am using a pick-up steering wheel and steering box for example . . . ;)

My first reaction was the Farias, they just look sweet!

But, I like the idea of matching the chrome and stainless.

No help here I guess. :)

I would go for the gold QC, those would look great on that boat I think. The other's are to plain looking to me.

QC I've got the tele sterling (all stainless/no black) They work great and I liked them for my '61 MFG . But I'll concede on a '40's mahogany boat I'd definately go with the faria. A better look and touch of class for your baby!

Love them woodies! Gonna buck the trend here and say go chrome. It'll be a real nice contrast to the warmth of the wood. Gold's too close in tone.

The Farias would be beautiful on a mahogany dash, however I have to vote for the Sterlings. They have that vintage look that would be perfect for your boat.

Good, they are supposed to . . . ;) Like a few of you I am still leaning this way. Anybody know of any other vintage looking gauges . . . ?

Re: Gauge appearance advice

I just remembered all of my dash switches, ignition key, 12 volt socket (vintage) are chrome . . . Kinda eliminates the gold stainless of the Faria's. Still wondering if anybody knows of any other vintage looking gauges. What I really want, like the Teleflex's, is a simple Font, with a dark or light background, no blue anywhere and chrome bezels . . . So far I can't find same for under $200 while some of these owner sold sets (not a "store" but new) go for around $100 . . .

Hi QC,

I'm sure you did a Google search but, I found egauges.com has some nice vintage gauges in chrome or gold.

Thanks Hashi, yeah I did find them, but can't get under $200 . . . I'll probably go with those Telflex's if I can't find something around $100 - $150 for all six (Speedo, Tach, oil, water, volt, fuel).

Yeah...they were kinda pricey.

I've found that on Ebay I can make offers to a seller within my budget range. Sometimes they'll accept and sometimes they'll make a counter offer. If you see something you like but don't really need it right away, try this. You'll be surprised that some stores just want to get rid of the item at any price.

These look nice, start at $26 and are in SS.
Yeah, I had found those already too and I was all cranked up, but check it out. Two flippin' Tachs and no Speedo . . . One is for a diesel and one for a gasser. Weird ???
