I am in the process of installing new head gaskets and head cover gaskets in my 1989 115 Yamaha. Looking at the manual it says to use Loc-Tite on the head cover s. What strength should be used? Also, is any gasket sealant supposed to be used with either the head gaskets or the head cover gaskets?

I would think the service manual should give you what kind to use

I would think that too, but I have read through this manual three times and this is all I can find about Loc-tite. In the powerhead section it doesn't mention anything about applying loc-tite when installing the thermostat or the exhaust cover. Unless I am missing something it does not specify what type of loc-tite to use. I would assume a high heat medium strength would be adequate, but that's why I am asking the question.

In the manual for my C40 it shows a picture or a tube with LT written on it with the number 572 right below it on the parts breakdown of heads, head cover, and exhaust cover bolts .

My guess you are talking about the bolts and not the covers themselves.

I ended up using a Permatex high temperature thread sealant with Teflon, Part #59235 I picked up at the local auto parts store.
I could not find the LT 572

I think it was recommend by a Yamaha Master tech if my memory is working
